Reproductive Healthcare Success Project (RHSP)
History
For decades, women, people of color, Indigenous leaders, intergenerational community leaders, healthcare providers and LGBTQI advocates in New Mexico have fought to protect and expand access to full-spectrum reproductive healthcare. Significant progress has been made; however, reproductive healthcare access is still limited in rural areas of the state.
In 2021, Bold Futures, in partnership with Strong Families NM and the UNM Health Sciences Center, helped determine the location for a new UNM-based healthcare center through The Reproductive Healthcare Success Project (RHSP). Project participants represented a wide range of New Mexico's population, healthcare providers, organizations and state regions that have diverse experiences with accessing or providing full-spectrum reproductive healthcare. This set the foundation for a deeper understanding of what quality reproductive healthcare should look like in New Mexico.
Fueled by the community's dream of a future where all people can access the care they need and providers have the necessary resources to offer health care beyond barriers, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains joined forces with RHSP to create a full-spectrum, community-advised reproductive health care center in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Advisory board
In September 2022, Bold Futures, Strong Families New Mexico, UNM Health Sciences Center, and Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains solidified their partnership and formed a community-led Advisory Board to advance the Reproductive Healthcare Success Project. The goal is to establish a community-driven, full-spectrum reproductive healthcare center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, offering culturally congruent, gender-affirming, trauma-informed services. The Advisory Board's insights laid the foundation for the center’s development and will guide next steps. We are deeply grateful for their time, wisdom, and commitment to this project. This one of a kind community advised healthcare center is slated to open in early 2026.
