Queer/Trans Circle

History & Identity

Queer/Trans Circle (QT) is a leadership group created to provide a safe space for healing, sharing, and joy for queer and trans communities in New Mexico, with a focus on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Our leaders are experienced and knowledgeable individuals who are active in their respective communities. We offer a reliable meeting space, both virtual and in-person, to ensure that our leaders feel supported in navigating their daily lives. One of our goals is to provide a chosen family for members to celebrate life with.

Leadership Development

Through leadership development and skill sharing, QT leaders are empowered to step into more advanced leadership roles. With the guidance and support of Bold Futures staff, QT leaders increase their capacity to drive change.

Advocacy

Collaboration is at the heart of creating larger, systemic change. We're proud of our QT leaders who collaborate with like-minded organizations such as:

  • The Transgender Resource Center and Equality New Mexico to organize focus groups to develop effective messaging for the 2023 New Mexico Legislative Session.

  • La Vida Project in Las Cruces in support of LGBTQ+ youth and Las Cruces Pride to inform attendees about reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare legislation.

  • NewMexicoWomen.org, participating in their "listening circles" and supporting the protection and expansion of reproductive healthcare with an LGBTQ+ lens.

QT leaders also actively worked towards advocacy surrounding legislation that ensures access to reproductive and gender-affirming health care. QT members continue to engage with La Vida Project in Las Cruces in support of LGBTQ+ youth and participated in the Las Cruces Pride event by tabling to inform attendees about the recently passed reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare legislation. One of our esteemed QT members was also named Grand Marshal of the Las Cruces Pride event for their remarkable community work to support the LGBTQ+ community and many of the QT members were there to celebrate. QT works actively with BFNM staff on intersecting issue area work including protecting and expanding reproductive healthcare with an LGBTQ+ lens.

Family Pride

QT and Bold Futures staff delivered a fantastic Family Pride in 2024, centered around LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and families, allowing our communities to feel seen and loved.

We take pride in our healing as a group and within our families as we learn to prioritize ourselves in a society that often overlooks us.
